The Soil Health Coalition is piloting an innovative approach to improve soil health.
The project purpose is to accelerate and sustain improvements in soil health and water infiltration. The project model allows all farmers to join, regardless of their type of farm production system.
The project emphasis is on farmer-to-farmer learning, engaging local community members as “citizen scientists”, and measuring on-site changes based on solid evidence:
• changes in soil carbon sequestration in soil over time,
• improvements in a soil’s water infiltration capacity, and
• changes in production systems made by active participants.
The approach complements other methods to encourage change in farm systems. Access to existing information, mostly available through the internet, will be strongly encouraged.
